Recipes that capture the creative energy of Paris art squats and bring it to the kitchens of the world.
Protected by squatters' rights laws, there are a dozen art squats operating in abandoned buildings around Paris. Not only are these squats whirlwinds of creativity that invigorate their neighborhoods, they are also a necessity: Paris is one of the planet’s most expensive cities and the impoverished painters, sculptors, writers, photographers and musicians who flock here can’t afford to both pay rent and devote themselves to their craft.
Squat life is about community and artistic dreams. Nowhere is this more evident than in the kitchens. Working with little money and limited resources, artists create magnificent and healthy meals.
